Workers, Police and Banderist Thugs Clash at Zhytomyr Confectionery Factory Occupation Jan 2016


In Zhytomyr in Western Ukraine, 1st to the 6th of January 2016, there has been an outbreak of violence as striking left-wing workers, Banderist volunteer battalion members and police have fought for control of the ZhL Confectionary factory owned by the main confectionary rival of President Petro Poroshenko Oligarch Ievgen Garnov and European investors.

The dispute erupted when management decided to pay December wages to the workers by New Years as is usual practice. The management blamed Russian sanction for a down turn in business and the workers of course went on strike and occupied the factory and threaten to take back the confectionary building which was a former Soviet factory in the name of the people.  Management who scared by the workers uprising called in the local police when the reused to physically remove the protesters and advised the factory management that dialogue was the best solution…
